As I have indicated, I just ended 10 days of darkness thanks to this ice storm that covered northeastern Oklahoma...that said, I have some Marvel Saga stuff I want to work on and then share with the masses (that visit these boards...all five of you).

Isn't that almost sad? We're so much the diehard fans, but our work for the game is virtually for naught as almost no one truly appreciates it all.
Still...I can't stop working on it. Like so many others, I can't figure out why this game didn't catch on stronger. Sure, I understand that TSR - who was bought out by Wizards of the Coast - abandoned all systems in favor of a streamlined D20 system, but when MSHAG was really up and running, what about then? Was it really just the card thing as so many have claimed? I can't see that being the issue.

Thing is, there are no HUGELY popular games that don't use dice.

What games? Where are the games? What's this board about?

The board was originally launched for the Marvel Saga roleplaying game...but lately it's all the other sections that have the most action.
Saga was a roleplaying game based on the Marvel universe that used a unique set of cards for action resolution...a neat feature which seemed to hamper its appeal to gamers at large, who seem to need dice.

Well if I had a copy of SAGA I would talk more SAGA. Hmm I think I will try and find a copy of SAGA so those sections are not lonely and well so I can play SAGA!

Best...superhero game...ever...=) Hey, what about all of those cool comic-related CCG/TCGs that came out in the mid 90s. Overpower, anyone? What about that slick and poilished Spawn game? Oh, never mind.

The biggest problem with a game such as SAGA is that it doesn't use dice. Most mainstream roleplayers are dice chucklers. Many of them actually collect dice and therefore want to use those dice.
The second problem, at the time SAGA was released, was that it followed DragonLance SAGA which had lots of problems and I think it turned a lot of people off of the SAGA system (this is IMO of course)
The third problem was that the game system was so out there. It was probably ahead of it's time. This game, which is rules light, came out at a time when rules heavy games ruled the gamebook shelves. It was diceless. I'm not sure how many diceless RPG systems were out near the same time. And it was too innovative for it's time. The cards were too foreign a concept for majoirity of gamers to get used to.

If you can, I would recommend you get the game. Although I like MURPG more, I would like to inject some randomness in my games and plan on incorporating some of the card reading aspect into MURPG. One thing I found unique about SAGA is the power stunts (although it may have been carried over from Marvel Classic). In MURPG, the powers are pretty much defined during character creation (although there are rules to further define an action) even though some give off effects depending on how you tell the action and how the GM interprets those actions. In SAGA, some of the powers seem to be less defined and seems to encourage the player to come up with creative ways to use their power in the hopes that it becomes a permanent stunt for that character.
