Will you be using ninjas in your campaign you are running now?
I have the Way of the Ninja (dual stat for d20 & 2nd ed). Let me know if you need any info concerning ninjas for your campaign.
If your FLGS has the book for a discount, I recommend you pick it up. It has info about the Kolat, Goju, new Paths (2nd ed), new Skills (2nd ed), etc. It makes for very interesting adversaries for your players.
I'm not sure how much has changed from 1st to 2nd ed but you probably can use most of the fluff if not the 2nd ed stuff.

I'm still missing half of the "Secrets of the <insert clan>" books, the daiymo book, 2 of the "Way of the <class>" books, and a book about the many spiritual planes (has info about the Kitsune which is the only thing that really interest me).
One concept I really like about L5R is the concept of spontaneous magic. I was really blown away reading "The Magic of Rokugan" book. It solves one of D&D's problem of magic items fitting the level of character.
If you ever get Deadlands, that concept is somewhat shared but not to L5R's extent. Most of these items take a much darker turn (think Blood Swords). I'm still not sure how SAGA handles magic items but I'll see when I get there.

Sasquatch, did you get your 3rd ed yet?

Finally got my copy of L5R 3rd Edtion and the Creatures of Rokugan and man I like what they did thus far and the cool part is I can still use my 1st ed stuff as it is very slick and easy to port over. One thing I do wonder about is the Minor Clans being on par with the Major clans. They are MINOR for a reason and thus should not be as powerful but still be able to hold their own, unless the story arc in third warrants this.
The lethality of combat I am keeping from 1st. But I like some of the new stuff as well. Very cool indeed!

Is your L5R campaign still going on or did you switch to RIFTS?

We actually have taken a break from L5R. But are going to get back into it where we left off in the Fall. We have converted all the player characters over to third edition. So we will continue using it and see how it goes. There are some things I am not keen on but I just ignore those and move forward. It mostly has to to with the extra health levels.

Have you tried the L5R CCG Samurai ed yet?
I played in a prerelease several weeks ago with a katana as the ultimate prize. The other sword was given to the newest player to get him excited to play with us more.

And then usually sit in my closet. So no I am not interested in the Cards. But the board game looks interesting! I am really digging the third ed books and the art is simply amazing! We are getting ready to delve back into the world of Rokugan once September hits should be grand.

Well I finally got my hands on a copy of the most anticipated book since 1st edition had come out and that is Legend of the Burning Sands! So getting the usual crew to rally back together and start gaming this again.
L5R is so good! I swear it is my staple game to run. It always seems to come back to Rokugan.

Ahem! I believe you mean Legend of the Burning Sand...
I've been wanting to pick that up but I haven't seen it in my FLGS yet.
With L5R, LBS, and 7th Sea, you can pretty much build any setting now.
