I was walking around in Target last night and going down the toy section I noticed something. There is a heck of a lot of super hero toys!
It seemed like a couple years ago it was filled with stupid wrestling action figures. Wrestling is okay, but even if you're a fan, you have to admit - most of those toys suuuuuuuucked!
And, well, even with as good of a selection as Marvel is putting out, none caught my eye so well that I felt like I had to get any. The one I would have would have been Doctor Doom, but they have a hard time making a Doom that looks like him. They try making his mask look like a metal face. *sigh*

Oh, wrestling toys do suck.
That's why my favorite wrestling toys were actually GI Joes.

Something interesting is that all of the Marvel toys that I seen played into some game. I don't recall the name of the game, but it was one I hadn't heard of before. Kind of neat tying toys into games. I have two little girls, so I check out the girl toys - and they're doing this with them, too. Or at least Disney is. Has anyone else heard about this? Toy-Games tie ins?

Ah, yeah, I've seen different things like this...my boy's still a tad young for it, but yeah...heck, I've even seen the Disney Princesses games.
Plus, Marvel has the Marvel Legends Showdown Action Figure Game or whatever its called.

I've been collecting various Marvel Legends lately. If you want a cool War Machine, look no further. Want a lame Dr. Strange with a cape that allows for almost no posibility, Marvel Legends in the answer.
The best thing about these sets are the build a figure. I have parts of Galactus and the Sentinel, and I have seen the Sentinel in person. He's worth it to build.
Series 14 is giving us Onslaught (crab man version), series 15 is Mojo, and series 16 (the final series, by Toy Biz at least) is MODOK.

Crab Man from My Name Is Earl? Heh... No. Onslaught's final form, with the more parasitic looking head.

The one I would have would have been Doctor Doom, but they have a hard time making a Doom that looks like him. They try making his mask look like a metal face. *sigh* JUMPING HEADLONG INTO A TOPIC THAT'S ALMOST A YEAR OLD.... Hey, Trakx and Tommy, I don't think the recent wrestling figures "suck" at all! Maybe to a non-fan (Trakx), but then you're not the target demographic(and Tommy should know better)! By current standards, almost ALL of the action figures released even a few years ago "suck" unless we're talking about the McFarlane stuff or some of the Hasbro Star Wars figures. The WWe Classic Superstars line has set a new standard in the genre. With that written.... You missed out on the Marvel Legends Doom figure they released a few years ago. It is a super-sweet accurate version of Doom. Easily the best Doom released to date. Before that I'd say the best Doom figure was the Secret Wars figure from the 80s. Either way, there actually is some cool stuff out there right now. In fact, at Wal-Mart a few weeks back I actually saw a double pack of The Punisher done in the 70s style (with the bitchin widow's peak and sideburns) and Jigsaw with the patched together Punisher suit. Definitely not aimed at the kid's market as much as reaching for the hardcore Marvel zombie and the collector's market. The Marvel Legends Showdown figures were a cool concept, a action figure/ battle game, but it just didn't deliver. It didn't resonate with either the kids who play with figures or the adults who collect figures, and now it's a dead line. Go check out the toy aisle now that Hasbro has gotten the Marvel toy lisence. There is some very cool stuff out now, sure to lure in just about anyone who is into collecting Marvel stuff.

It's okay...I'm fine with thread necromancy...=)
I admit I haven't followed the WWE stuff much lately, but the TNA figures are the same crappy work that killed the WCW figures. Good sculpts but lame "action features" that limit what you can DO with them.

The WORST are toys, especially action toys like wrestling stars or super heroes, that you can't bend major joints like their elbows, knees, or even the legs or arms themselves!
Does the toymaker just forget, or do they actually look at the finished product and call it good even with such a loss to articulation?

The TNA line dumped the action featues after the second series. They're much better now. With the Maevel license no longer with Toy Biz, they've got plenty of time to get them right.
I think the lack of articulation is meant to provide better sculpts for a more accurate likeness. A lot of toys these days, and this is strange to type, aren't aimed at kids as much as they are for adult collectors. But I agree, for kids they are horrible. That's why the aforementioned Marvel Legends line is so good. It provides great likenesses and sculpts with super-poseability to appeal to everyone.
They've come a long way since I was a kid with figures that moved at the shouders, hips, and neck.... if we were lucky.

Yeah, Marvel Legends toys look pretty good... sometimes. More often than not I find the character to be a hideous knockoff, but something I might settle for. But strangely enough, when you're modeling an already hideous character, like Mojo, they do a fantastic job (seriously)! Weird. My personal opinion, I have found d**n near every DC Direct action figure to be of truly outstanding quality - WITH 26 points of articulation. I still haven't figured out all 26 points, but I'm sure they're there. Maybe they're on the inside with real working organs or something, I don't know.

I agree, DC Direct figures are awesome. The Kingdom Come figures especially, to me, are closer to art than to toy. The only thing I don't like about them is the price. If I get REALLY bored one day I may try to pinpoint all 26 points of articulation. That does seem like a lot.
BTW, the mos awesome Marvel Legends figure recently to me was the Luke Cage Power Man complete with silver tiara and awesome yellow puffy shirt! Now that's a Legend!

I'm not a fan of the new sculpts on the Marvel Legends figures available since Hasbro took over...Banshee and White Queen look kinda rough.

Yeah, I was wondering what happened to that line, now I know. I wasn't impressed with any of the Annihilus series Marvel Legends except maybe Beast X3 and the 15th or so Iron Man (which I guess i shte rare one, walmart didn't have any). The colors on the ones I saw were a little bright/pastel like and the faces were ugly IMO. Banshee looked like he had female hands and White Queen looked like she was bulhemic or something. For as big a figure as the new Hulk was, he sure had a weak jawline.
Toy Biz was doing a pretty good job until recently. A lot of my recent figures from them had joint problems, mostly the joints had been painted shut. Other then that they at least looked good. I have Apocalypse, Sentinel, and Galactus and they're all awesome build-a-figures. I have a little bit of some of the others, I'd really like to get a hold of Mojo.
