I heard a rumor that there was going to be a DC SAGA RPG game? Has anyone heard anything about this? Was there ever any work distributed? Previews??

What?
Um, no, that's the first I ever heard about it. When was this? Around the time of MSHAG's release?
Kind of speaking of which, I wish I could hear the behind the scenes of how MSHAG came together and how it was released.

Actually, I seem to recall a story that TSR/WotC was trying to acquire the DC license and release a "crossover" book, but then d20 hit and anything that wasn't d20 was shuffled off into oblivion.

Man, that kills me to hear. Makes me wish I were a millionaire so I could go and buy the rights and have their work finished and release it all anyway. Believe me, if I ever win the lottery, this will be one wish that will come to fruition. That will be my gift upon the world. The rest of the money will be spent more selfishly.

Just think, if this did come about, it would have been the first time the 'Big Two' were published using the same system!

Kind of speaking of which, I wish I could hear the behind the scenes of how MSHAG came together and how it was released. From what I can recall, while they were playtesting Dragonlance SAGA, the designers realized the mechanics fit perfectly for a superhero themed game. After they released Dragonlance, they tweaked the SAGA system a bit more to fit the superhero theme and released it shortly after. I never got the Dragonlance SAGA but I hear that the Marvel SAGA is a vast improvement over the Dragonlance SAGA.

Dragonlance Saga was sweet, IMHO...I'm just one of eight guys that couldn't get into the Dragonlance setting...but I have repeatedly toyed around with using it for a generic fantasy game, or tweak it for Ravenloft or something.
That said, I do prefer Marvel Saga over Dragonlance Saga...if, for no other reason, then because there are few truly impossible things in Marvel Saga.
(I really need to post the Castle Doom story on here...)

DragonLance SAGA ROCKED!! I love it....too bad I didn't get a copy of it though. I still need to find myself a copy of the Marvel Saga game. But A DC SAGA game would have been really cool as you could do crossovers and everything! Superman teams up with Captain America.......Awesome!

I don't know if I would want to run fantasy using SAGA though. The magic system lookedway too freeform and I heard there was very little character creation. I heard a lot of people complaining about the balance issue of the classes too. Some people were complaining about the lack of monsters too (or was the complaint towards combat aspect of SAGA?).
Actually, I'm quite satisfied with Savage Worlds and D&D for running fantasy.

When it comes to fantasy now I just use Dungeons & Zombies along with the All Flesh Must Be Eaten game or any Uni-system book that lends itself to what I am looking for. I am actually in the process of converting Forgotten Realms D20 to Uni-System as needed.

Actually, I'm quite satisfied with Savage Worlds and D&D for running fantasy. Well, there weren't really "classes" in Saga, per se. So "class balance" was kind of a non-issue. Anyone with the right ability code could cast spells, use all weapons, etc. I think the number of monsters in the core box was kinda lacking, but they made up for that with the Bestiary. Character creation was just as involved as in, say, Dungeons & Dragons...you just used cards instead of dice. In the Saga Companion there was even a nice little "Background Generator" you could use to flesh out your character if you were stumped.

I am actually in the process of converting Forgotten Realms D20 to Uni-System as needed. One of my favorite fantasy settings of all time! I still have my 1st ed version. It had a clear view octagonal map that you can overlay on the maps to judge the distance from point a to point b. I also had almost every accessory. Unfortunately, I lend it to a friend who moved. I have the updated version and was happily surprised by the quality of the book. I wonder if they will do a Kara-Tur and Meztica book...

I would have picked up DragonLance SAGA too if my FLGS had it at the time I bought Marvel SAGA. Unfortuantely, they didn't have the core books, only some of the supplements. I got Marvel SAGA for $5 due to the store trying to clear out it's old inventories. I also picked up BirthRight for the same amount with all the accessories that were left of the setting. I am thinking of converting it to Savage Worlds.

It's too bad there were no stats or material 'leaked' for the DC SAGA, I would have loved to see any of that!!

Did DC ever do updates towards their Who's who line?
I've seen them do updates towards the Justice League but those were more artwork and character histories than actual stats.
If you have the Who's who collection, you could do a rough conversion. The only problem is that the some powers in the DC universe works a bit differently than it does in the Marvel Universe. I guess you can go around it by molding it to DC standards by adding stunts and limits or rewording some of the powers to DC standards.
I never cared to play in the DC universe though. That world seems a bit disjointed whereas the Marvel universe seems more uniform throughout it's diverse lines.
