So just wondering how many play in or ran a Heroes Unlimited Rpg by Palladium Books? I loved this game back in the day and still have my old books. However, I have been seriously thinking of picking up the revised books they have out now. Anyone else have the new ones or ever playing Heroes Unlimited?

I own the newest edition of this game, and I'm supposed to review it for RPG.net, but UGH...simply awful.
Can't make myself write the review.

I got this book as a gift some time ago. I've played a few sessions (as a player). And my first reaction is that the game overall seems very weak.
Not to say the game system is weak (I haven't played it enought to make that call (though there are reems and reems of eretta and rules 'clarifications' online). What I mean by weak is the general level of power available to you as a character.
I guess I'm too used to Mutants and Masterminds where anything feels possible. Heroes Unlimited seems more about saying 'no' to your players rather than M&M's 'yes'.
But alot of people seem to like the lower level power of HU and it has quite a following, so 'differant strokes' and all. I guess my personal opinion of the game is "I'm not impressed."

So is the newest version worse than the version before it? I personally have not played Mutants & Masterminds as the superhero rpg was ruled in my circle by Classic Marvel rpg, DC Heroes rpg (both versions), Heroes unlimited (for time) and then the Marvel Universe RPG (stones version).
I am hoping that Eden Studios will get Beyond Human out and then I will be really happy as I am a BIG supporter of Eden Studios!

Well I like to hear from both sides of the fence on it. Since I already own it, unless there are vast improvements I am not going to merely pick up another book to "collect" and gather dust on my shelve.

Yes, the current version is worse. In some ways they depowered Magic and Psionics and then provided uber powerful "Mega heroes" (guess who has no real benefits from becoming mega heroes? Psionics and Magic)
It's not HORRIBLE but it is really best for a low powered game with a focus on skills. Many powers if removed or cut down to be comparable across the boards (Body of Metal) would make the game more appropriate for its base power level, and be a fun (even if lower powered) supers game.
It's better than Brave New World at least (and Unsanctioned, and Foundation, and Enforcers)

Well that is no good that they would lessen Magic and Psionics. Wonder why the drastic change? I think I will just stick with what I got and save my cash.

The reason was to make it more compatible with Rifts (never mind that Rifts has MDC, and magic does MDC stuff and has all those ley lines and so on)

Ahh! Ya know I wondered it that was it. So they neutered some characters so they wouldn't be all powerful. hehehe! Guess they didn't want heroes or some heroes getting too much limelight given the subject matter?

I guess my biggest gripe is that Heroes Unlimited isn't really all that unlimited.

I passed on HU so long ago. Doesn't HU have a class system? On a tangent, I can't believe they are on their 3rd power book splatbook. Has the power creep gone up with those releases?

I am not sure but I could see it. I mean it seemed that every new RIFTS release had more powerful characters and creatures than the one before. Almost like they were trying to best themselves and the book before it. Most players wouldn't want to make a character from a previous/older book because any newer books had more powerful OCC's.

With the release of splatbooks for RIFTS, the timeline moves forward usually. I think the last Worldbook they did was RIFTS China. It had an OCC similiar to a Grammaton Cleric (forgot the name of the movie). Anyway, I don't mind it so much with RIFTS but I would think that if they are going to put out books giving more options with powers, it would be somewhat balanced with the core book. Does HU have a balancing mechanic? I know that Marvel Classic and MHAG don't really have a balancing mechanic except through randomizing what powers players get. MURPG somewhat has it with some powers costing more than others.
And something about a superhero having classes on the same vein as D&D bothers me ( ie A Brave New World, d20 SAS)
