This has been my new shiny toy for the last couple of weeks. I don't particuliarly care for a Star Wars setting but people kept on raving about how this could be a prelude to D&D 4th ed. I bought it wanting to know more about how much they deviated from d20.
After having read the book, it got me all excited to play in a Star Wars rpg game. This particular brand of d20 definately has a more pulpy feel to it. The way the designers implemented the use of force truly feels like the movies (although I can't compare it from other SW RPG incarnations). The best thing is how cool and enticing they made to play the other classes.
Mechanics-wise, the neat thing they did was break down the class barrier even more and used an expanded Talent Tree to allow for even more flexibility in chargen.
The not so good thing is that this is the 1st printing and there is a lot of confusion in how some of the mechanics are used as well as simple printing mistakes.

I know someone else that is using this new system. I personally am not interested only because I have pretty much all of the West End Games Star Wars RPG d6 system. So I just pick up the Star Wars minis to use with the old system.

Fair enough.
I was originally curious more for the system than the setting but now I want to play in the setting.
If I run it, I'll probably go with the poor man's minis---cardboard. SW CMG is not my style. I found it very boring during a demo.

I can't justify buying it for full price, with other RPG purchases in the queue ahead of it...but if I could pick up a decent deal on a used one, my curiosity has been raised on it, so I'd definitely check it out.

Yes, I consider the book to be expensive too especially for it's size and page count but it is licensed product and the quality is very good.
I've heard that Amazon sells it for about half price. Just be warned that the book sixe is small and there is a foldout map attached in the middle of the book and not at the end. The reason for this was that there was supposed to be an adventure using said map but it was cut out last minute and they forgot to place the map at the end.
I've done a rough draft of the setting (taking place 1000 years after the original trilogy) and now I need players to play in it. I have to see if a couple of friends would be willing to play but our schedules are so out of whack that it'll be a challenge to find time when we are all free.

Well I refuse to support Wizards at all now that they are bringing out this crap 4.0 DnD! A lot of gamers and gaming business are not going to stock it due to how much they will have stuck on their shelves that is still 3.5.

I'm looking forward to 4th ed. I was not happy that they brought out 3.5 so soon after 3rd ed and didn't bother to upgrade to that edition.
One of the things I was disappointed with 3rd ed was that they did not move far away enough from a class structure. The class structure in 4th ed seems to be a lot more flexible than 3rd ed. I also look forward to what else they have streamlined. I'm curious to see what 3rd party will do with their existing d20 products.

Well I for one will not support Wizards or give them a cent in any way for anything they made now. I have even dropped picking up Star Wars minis. Burns I disagree that they couldn't wait atleast 5 more years before bringing this new system out.
Either way I am going to start playing RuneQuest. Mongoose Publishing can have my money. Wizards won't get a cent.

I finally got 4 players to agree to play in the Star Wars Universe. We will meet once or twice a month which should make it easier for everyone to meet.
Now I just need to decide on an era. Thinking of setting my campaign during the NWO although one of the players expressed an interest in the KOTOR era.
The Wookiepedia is an amazing information center for Star Wars. I didn't realize how large and detailed the setting was. Now I have to waid through it and sort out the info I need to set up my campaign.

KOTOR era would be fun. You will have to let us/me know how it goes. Maybe log some brief session reports here?

KOTOR is good but I felt that era concentrated too much on the Jedi-Sith conflict.
I've decided on Legacy era. There is much more instability in this era with 3 factions vying for power, the removal of the "rule of two" which I thought was lame to begin with, no iconic NPCs, and the Jedi are not of one mind.
I believe this era makes it easier to spread the attention to other character classes besides the Jedi.
I've collected enough info and now am in the process of statting some major NPCs.
I'll try to take notes but I'm not sure how successful I will be at that.

I was able to score some old West End Games Star Wars RPG books I don't have for 3 bucks each from my FLGS. The owner who is good friends with me found them in the bowels of the store and wondered if I was interested. The Majority of them were hardcover and so I got them all for like 20 bucks. Pretty sweet!

Saga is my first Star Wars RPG so I know very little of the WEG version. I've heard good things about the fluff as well as the mechanics.
A lot of fans of the WEG version have had favorable opinions of the Saga version so I'm glad.
Was there a glactic guide for the WEG version? I wish there was a sourcebook that had a galactic map with all the important planets.
I have been trying to get my group together for a couple of months now and it seems like the planets have to be aligned for us to have the same free time to game.
