So... am I the only one of the vast group of people who post here that plays?

Haha.
I used to play...but the cut-throat competition drove me out of the game...=)

I have ALWAYS wanted to play, but I never knew other people who did. ...that and I'm poor. That always limits ones options. Tell me, since you do play, how good is Doctor Doom compared to other heroes/villains? Be honest. Don't spare my feelings. I can take it.

I got out just as they finally made Doom, so I can't tell you...but he doesn't get the great treatment he does in Saga...=)

I have one heroclix figure: Doom. But I don't really have any idea what the numbers mean. Who are some of the best heroclix figures? Wolverine is one of them, no doubt.

Actually, in the first set, Firelord was...because he was super powerful and underpriced.

Here's the low-down on Dr. Doom.
The actual Victor Von Doom himself was released in Marvel's first Expansion "Clobberin' Time." While Infinity Challenge was the first Marvel set, CT was the first expansion.
Dr. Doom had three version like most characters, a Yellow Rookie, Blue Experienced and Red Veteran. His Doombots also make an appearance in the set, also in the Rookie, Experienced and Veteran variety (they are just far more common of pulls). Thanks to their position in the set, the doombots have a limited edition figure called "Doctor Doom." It is based on the doombot that malfunctioned and went around for a while thinking that he was the real Dr. Doom.
As far as power levels go, the Rookie and Experienced Dr. Doom rarely ever see play or get talked about. They aren't the best pieces in the world to use, and they suffer from various problems that Heroclix sometimes had in portraying characters. The veteran is the best piece, and he was one of the meanest pieces back in the day. By today's standards, he still ranks up there with the big guns (and with a new trend towards lower combat values, he actually rising in usefulness).
V Dr. Doom was rather rare, even for just being a non-unique figure. He commanded a hefty price tag of around 20 bucks back when he was first available, and now after almost 4 years, he still fetches over 10 dollars.
Last year, in the Marvel expansion "Fantastic Forces" we were given the ultimate Dr. Doom. His sculpt is great and accurate of the character, and his dial is rather a good representation of the rather limited appearances of him in the comics. He is far inferior to the Dr. Doom of CT (as well he should be).
So as standard character represenations go, Dr. Doom is definitely a worthy piece to have.

I have the first three, almost four, entire sets of Marvel Heroclix and spent entirely too much to get them! After the pack price went up and the Silver Surfer (one of my favorite Marvel characters) piece was so hard to get, I quit buying. I also quit playing around that time. I can tell you from when I was actively playing that Dr. Doom actually contributed to a couple of tournament wins for me. With a couple of Doombots close to absorb damage, veteren Dr.Doom is a powerful character for the cost.
Of course, like Tommy mentioned, Firelord was the most abused and underpriced character of all until the rules changes a while back. A verteren Firelord showed up on just about every team to the point of being ridiculous. Although, a well concealed rookie Black Panther always did the trick for me, using his stealth to hide and outwit Firelords powers while my long range guns did their work.
I kind of miss the game now. Too bad no one around here plays anymore.

yeah I have BAGS AND BAGS of these things. My brother and I played a lot and man I miss playing but it pretty much dried up in these parts. Mind you my neices play with them from time to time. So maybe when they get older I can teach them how to play. I got out of it just as they were introducing the new card/token mechanics.

Well the last few Sets for both DC and Marvel have been very enticing indeed to get back into this. Dr. Banner and I have been talking about getting back into it. But the next Star Wars minis set is about to come out soon and kinda waiting for it first!

Yeah, I've been keeping more and more up to date on Heroclix...I honestly and truly love the direction they've taken with it...If there was more than 24 hours in a day I'd tell everything I know about it, but suffice to say, the two biggest changes are:
1) There is no longer Rookie/Experienced/Veteran versions of each character in a set...Each character in a set will still be R/E/V/Unique, but they won't have all 3 of each...Much more indivduality between characters, and of course, far more different characters per set...
2) Characters now have character cards, which now allows for the characters to actually have unique abilities... Some examples:
The first two clicks of Hercules from the Secret Invasion Set has the "wrestler" power which reads: Hercules can use Charge, Flurry and Plasticity...
Green Scar (hulk from Planet/World War Hulk) from the Mutations and Monsters set has 4 clicks in the middle of his dial that read: Toughest One There Is: Green Scar can use Impervious and Willpower (which is awesome by the way)
And my personal favorite; From Secret Invasion, Adam Warlock (one of my all time favorites, finally getting an awesome figure) has the ability "Him" for his first 4 clicks...it reads: "Adam Warlock can use Leadership, Support and Perplex. When Adam Warlock uses Perplex he can use it normally or choose to modify any combat value (except damage) by +2 or -2."
As I said, I love the changes, I love the direction it's going, I love the last 3 sets for Marvel...I wish I had the time and money to justify getting back into it...

So...they finally made an Adam Warlock that isn't crap? Not only did they make a VERY cool AdamWarlock, they also snuck in an awesome Magus as well... The Warlock is 160 points (99 more than the first attempt) and the Magus is 184...Both worthy additions in my eyes (check out how colourful Magus' dial is)... So.....tempted..... Oh, speaking of upgrades... Thanos...267 points, aside from a far more powerful dial, he features the Power Cosmic team ability (Members of this team do not take pushing damage and their powers cannot be countered. This team ability cannot be copied by wild card team abilities.)...Also a terrific upgrade...

That Magus figure is gorgeous and I think with a few touch ups it would be gold. I LOVE that Thanos figure! Dammit! Now I am going to have to start getting into this again!!!
