So after several years of sticking to my guns about not getting into another ccg, I finally broke down and picked up the 2 starters and a week later, a box.
I'm not as impressed with this version as I was with Score's version. Bandai's version only has a cosmetic similarity to the show meaning the cards have DB pics but the game play feels nowhere near like DBZ. There is hardly back and forth man to man hth combat in this game. Instead you send out teams which may or may not be opposed by the opponent's team.
The dragonball concept has been butchered in this iteration. Dragon balls should be unique, yet, in the game, both players can have the same numbered Dragon Balls out. The one thing I do like are the Wish cards. Once you have collected all 7 DBs, you can use one of the wishes you had set aside at the beginning of the game. They are very powerful cards and therefore will effect the game greatly.
I do have to admit the gameplay is solid and seems to be much better balanced than Score's game. Bandai learned what worked and what didn't from their Naruto game for which this game barrows its mechanics from.
I just hope that future releases go even farther from its Naruto roots and that the game feels more like the anime.
What can I say, I'm weak when it comes to DBZ. Hopefully I won't lose my head like the last time when my collector self took over my body and took me to a couple of BK restaurants a day for a week just to get promos.
